Or, to be more descriptive, The Really Big Possibly Comprehensive Exhaustive Exhausting List of Women’s Blogs About Riding Bikes. Or Bicycles.
The story of how I built the list appears at the end in case you’re interested.
I decided I should start sharing the great content I found in this quest so I created the Twitter account @WomenBikeBlogs, which features new blogs and feeds links to new posts from previously featured blogs. The associated Facebook page has the news feeds as well.
This is a quest that will never end, so ladies (and the men who read their blogs), it’s your turn.
If you know of a currently active blog written by a woman that focuses on biking or includes enough bike-related content that you think of it as a bike blog, fill out the form below (after you look at the list to see if it’s already on there!).
I will update the live list every so often with your entries. Last update: May 13, 2012, 601 blogs. In this update I took over 90 defunct blogs off the list–“defunct” defined as not having posted in months or possibly years since I last looked at them. They’re perhaps of historical interest so I still have the data–should I post them on a separate page for reference?

The Genesis of “The (Pretty Darned) Comprehensive List of Women’s Bike Blogs”//
Know of a Women’s Bike Blog not on “The List”? Tell Us & We’ll Add It!
That’s quite a claim in the title. I’m putting it out there because I’ve searched and searched and either it’s on page 200 of the Google results or it’s not out there. Or, well–it is out there now because it’s here.
My hunt started in fall of 2010 quite innocently with a Google search: women’s bike blogs list. I figured someone, somewhere, had compiled something like this.
But—eerily reminiscent of my earlier search for a list of Spokane blogs (described on my personal blog)—I only found small personal lists people had compiled as blog posts. I tweaked the search terms (women’s biking blogs, ladies cycling, etc.), tried again, lather-rinse-repeat any number of times.
At the time Wikipedia’s entry on Cycle Chic only listed 17, which isn’t even a comprehensive list of just the blogs with Cycle Chic in their names. I found a couple of small directories but you have to know they’re out there and submit your blog directly, which doesn’t create a comprehensive list as effectively as an active search. Obsession has its up side.
I already subscribed to some great blogs so I started following links from blogrolls. I realized I was getting lost in which ones I’d seen and which ones I hadn’t. I started a spreadsheet to keep track.
Then it dawned on me—I was building “the comprehensive list of women’s cycling blogs” I had been seeking.
The well-known blogs like Let’s Go Ride a Bike and BikeShopGirl show up again and again, and justifiably so. The real sense of discovery, however, lay in finding a blog that wasn’t on anyone else’s blogroll.
Those serendipitous links kept me going and took me into various nooks and crannies of the biking world from racing to mountain biking to biking mommy bloggers, freestyle BMX competitors, fashionistas and photographers, to name a few.
Notes on my “system”:
The basic list of links appears here in alphabetical order; all blog titles that begin with an actual numeral appear first.
Librarians and other fans of order may find it frustrating that I capitalized blogs beginning with “A” under A and those with “The” under the letter T. That’s what an electronic sort does for you, for one thing. And for another thing as a writer I could never understand why alphabetizing should disregard articles anyway. They carry meaning. The author chose a word or the words. So there they are.
I’ve included all the Cycle Chic™ blogs I could find even though some are not created by women.
I included male/female teams as long as the female voice is really represented on the blog.
And there you have it: What I believe is the web’s biggest list of women’s bike blogs. Happy reading!
